      1. Seriously have a search for Human Achievement Hour, I believe it was an American that tried to start it. Basically instead of turning off all the lights, he wanted everyone to keep them on to celebrate human Achievement, apparently we don’t have to be like the communists, we can use light. (whatever that means)

      2. I’ll google him later, but I’d be willing to bet that the guy pushing Human Achievement Hour read too much Ayn Rand at an impressionable age.

Additionally, I don’t know if it was like this down your way, Chazz, but growing up in the U.S. in the ’60’s & ’70’s, pretty much everybody in America was scared to death of the Communists and blamed them for all the world’s “darkness.”.
Now don’t get me wrong – I have relatives who lived behind the Iron Curtain and I absolutely despise the totalitarian governments who did (and still do, in Cuba) force their citizens to live in squalor under some corrupt excuse for Communism, but a lot of conservative Americans used it as a catch-all Monolithic Evil upon which to blame anything they didn’t like or didn’t agree with – much the same way ignorant conservatives now blame all their problems on illegal immigrants and Muslims/Middle Easterners (the real lunkheads don’t distingusih between the latter two, just as they don’t know the diff between Communism and socialism.)

      3. Oh dear god, ok, now I get what you’re talking about. Yeah, last year after Earth Hour I saw blogs and comments on various Web sites from people who did what you’re describing: running around turning every light on in the house. Basically they don’t believe in global warming, they think the whole thing is a joke. I figure they’re the redneck NRA supporters who have weapons caches in every corner of their houses, the conservatives who think it’s their God-given right to exploit any damn thing they choose. And if they wanna trash the environment and leave a toxic legacy for future generations then by god they will, ’cause you know it doesn’t say in the bible not to.

      4. yah, they hide behind the Bible and Constitution – never were 2 such intriguing works of literature blamed for so much by so many ignorant yahoos.

  1. D’you mean an hour in which we “turn off” all human achievment, and just lay around for 60 minutes, conserving energy? Or as Fang & I like to call it, “Sloth Hour”?
