Dark Shadows Filming Has Begun

Vampires.com is reporting that filming is underway, and has the press release explaining the backstory and how we find Collinwood in the 1970s.

Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles.

Go read the rest and check out the guy they have playing young Barnabas. He has a marked resemblance to Johnny Depp.

  1. Can’t believe Depp hasn’t played a vampire before. He has the smoldering dark gaze down pat.

And Eva Green will be perfect as a vengeful witch. She really has the bittersweet iron willed style of a Morgan Le Fay. 🙂

  2. I like the red eyes in the pic, too 🙂 Yes Eva Green has the look down, too! She’s so sultry. And she’s played a witch once already, in “The Golden Compass.” 😉

I’m a little surprised at Johnny Depp claiming to be such a fan of the show. I thought it typically appealed more to women, but who knows? And he’s so unpredictable anyway!

    1. I have to say I’m still nervous about Seth Grahame-Smith writing it. I’m expecting some kind of high camp send-up of the original series, rather than anything truly creepy and atmospheric. I WANT creepy and brooding and atmospheric 😉 What I expect is something along the lines of “Airplane!” but with vampires and witches. And that’s fine for those who want DS transformed into a comedy, but I don’t.

  3. I can understand your concern, but take haeart – J-Depp is not usually involved in crappy comedies, and neither in Bonham-Cartrr.

  4. True. I’m hoping they’re keeping the rabid fanbase in mind as they proceed. If they stray too far from the original there’s likely to be a lynching. :::Aside to Mr. Burton: please let no one bust out in some inexplicable dance like Depp did at the end of “Alice in Wonderland.”:::
