Calling all horror fans!
I am very excited to be able to do this, to share with you a book that I read and loved.
A little background: Back in the early part of this year, I was lucky enough to snag an ARC of the newest novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist, the author of “Let the Right One In” (which was made into a movie in Sweden, and then this year remade in the U.S. as “Let Me In”. It was a riveting story of a friendship between a young vampire and a marginalized Swedish boy).
It was fascinating, and horrific, and so of course I had to read Lindqvist’s new novel. As good as “Let the Right One In” is, he really hits his stride with “Harbor.” On a day trip to a lighthouse, across the ice-bound snowy harbor, a small girl vanishes without a trace. The book follows the girl’s father, and his neighbors on the island, with weird twists and horrific encounters with people who should not be. There’s an insidious, creeping evil here on this otherwise lovely island off the coast of Sweden.
Sadly, the giveaway is restricted to the U.S. and Canada. St. Martin’s Press is generously providing the book, and will send it from their offices in New York. Sorry folks, I know a lot of you are in other countries. I’ll hopefully be able to do something more international another time. I get to pull the winner and then provide their name and address to St. Martin’s.
So, if you live in the U.S. or Canada and would like to get a copy of this book, leave a comment below and I will pick a winner on October 11, the date of the book’s U.S. release.
Good luck!
OMG I am so IN. Horror, a free book, a tale of a secluded island, a recommendation from DD – is there anything about this offer that’s NOT my favorite thing?!

haha! π Seriously, by the end of the book, I wanted to move to this island and hang out with these people. Lindqvist really writes 3-dimensional characters, you get to know them so well. But there are reasons for it, it’s not just to increase sympathy, it all ties in with the story. Wonderfully interesting people, all.
It’s been really hard to sit on this all year, knowing I was going to be able to do this! I’m so excited you’d think I was getting a free book (which I already did, but that’s beside the point).

Very cool giveaway! Sounds like a great book. Also, this is a great reminder to me that I need to pick up “Let the Right One In.” I’ve wanted to read it, but haven’t gotten around to it. I will remedy that soon.

Hi Eric!
Yes, the book is so different from the movie. The movie follows the book fairly closely, but it left out some stuff (as movies always do). “Harbor” is really good. The horror is always just around the corner from ‘normal’ in the characters lives.

Thanks for having this giveaway. This will definitely be a novel I’ll want to read. I liked “Let the Right One In” quite a bit. The first few pages, with the description of the unnatural suburban location really drew me in when I picked it up in a bookstore. The rest of the book did not disappoint. I hope I end up being the winner, but am sure I’ll pick up a copy (Well, probably get a Kindle copy…) if not.

I know, sorry Tasha and Chazz π¦ But since St. Martin’s is sending the book, it’s not up to me. I see this a lot with these things, though. Several of the authors I follow on Twitter who have recently done this have had to have the same restrictions. It’s too bad, since the internet community is global. I hope if I have another one I can extend it to other countries.

I’d like to toss my name in the drawing, too, please. I loved both “Let the Right One In” and “Handling the Undead” and have been looking forward to “Harbor”.

Ouh, Let the Right One In triggered the idea for my novelette Misery of Me – I’m such a fan of Linqvist! The story sounds amazing, too…love the wild snowy swedish landscape, his voice, his characters, their needs and want. I. LOVE. HIM.
Please count me in your cool giveaway!!
