NaNoWriMo Mock Book Cover

Thanks to a couple of Twitter pals, I decided to play around and make a mock cover for my vampire novel, which is still using the working title, Revenants Abroad. I hope Mr. Clemens doesn’t mind. Here are a couple of things, very different in feel.

Maybe this can serve as some inspiration for your own. I found the backgrounds at a free wallpaper site, I hope they didn’t pirate it from somewhere else. Just having some fun here!

  1. Thanks, Ralfast! I had a real thing for that one, too. It’s so different from anything I’ve seen, if the book ever gets published I’d love a cover like this. It’s mysterious, and I think the black & white gives it an edgy feel. These were so fun to play around with. I could do this for days!

  2. Thanks, Lora 🙂 I think they would both be powerful eyegrabbers on a real book. Very different feel to each, but either one could work. I’ll probably do more just for fun 😀

  3. I like the first one, it’s sort of timeless. Reminds me of a Dashiell Hammett cover, can’t think of which one though. In any event it’s a good thing.

Mr. Clemens would undoubtedly say, “You’re quite a dame.”

  4. I liked the red moon cover, until I scrolled down to the black & white. That one REALLY caught my eye. Both look like books I’d want tp pick up and read, even if I didn’t know about Andrzej (sp?)

  5. Thanks, MJ 🙂 I think if either one were going to be used as a real cover for the book, the red skies stand a much better chance with a publisher. It hints more at something ‘supernatural’. The b&w has almost a cyberpunk-y feel to it, which isn’t too off since I set the book 300 years in the future, although there are no actual cyberpunk elements to it. Also, Andrej has longer hair 😉

  6. My first attraction was to the B/W, but I like the element of red. I’m getting that itchy night before Christmas Eve feeling now that NaNo is almost here.

  7. Thanks, Rosie! 🙂 Yes, I couldn’t decide, which is why I did them both! I really think the red skies is more in keeping with the genre, but I like to be different so I did the b&w.

I think we’re all getting antsy to start writing, I know I am! I have to hold myself back, I like to play fair, because we’re really only competing with ourselves. If I cheat and start early, that doesn’t tell me if I can really do it. So, stuff swirls in my head, bubbling and simmering, waiting to be poured out into the molds to gel. Soon, soon… 😉

  8. Awww, thank you, Susannah! 🙂 I’ll try to post something soon. I’m over my daily quota for NaNo word count so should have a little time soon! I know I’ve been kind of MIA lately, it’s been hectic to say the least.

  9. Thanks! I think I would choose that one over the other, at least for this story.

Is WordPress really funky for you now? I’m so used to seeing it as a WP blogger, although some things have changed. But I’m glad you came by. I have been terrible about getting around to visit blogs myself lately. I plead NaNoWriMo!

  10. I do find it harder to find new blogs to follow. There used to be a function to search on keywords, and I think it still exists to some extent but it’s much less useful than it used to be.
