Good Saturday

I probably should have been more “responsible” but I needed some downtime so I went out for another bike ride. Did a little better this week than last week, much better than I expected for not having been on the bike in probably 9 months.

Also have several writing projects going, which is interesting to flip back and forth between them all as I go. I decided to see if I could find a photo representation of a story that started out, as usual, with a scene appearing in my head. Then I got a bunch of it last night just before drifting off to sleep and FOR ONCE I WROTE IT ALL DOWN. Massive accomplishment for me.

I hesitate to share the photo, I don’t want to give away too much or have this be considered the definitive photo of the two MCs, but it really doesn’t say much about the story itself so why not. And no, it’s not steampunk.

Elliott and KateNo idea who these people were, I found the photo here. There were no names on it, so there’s no way to know now who this couple was. I’m sorry for their families (if they have any living descendants, who knows?) that this wonderful photo is lost to them. They may not be the ultimate representation of the characters in the story, but for now they are inspiring me. I’ve kind of been on a Civil War kick lately (actually I think it sort of started around Lincoln’s birthday in February) and you guys know how I get when I latch onto something. I can obsess like nobody’s business.

  1. I was going to ask you soon if you had been back on the bike. Never seemed to be the right time on Twitter though. Glad to hear you were, “Back in the saddle”. I know it has to be a little tough having such a traumatic thing happen..at least I know my mind works that way some times. I fell off a ladder and took a 10foot drop straight down. Got a concussion and several bruised ribs. My job demands that I get on a roof every now and then..nothing was more nerve wracking than climb that ladder for a while. So congrats on getting that part behind you! Hope you can enjoy riding more often now that the summer is here.

And all I can say is I’m very jealous that you managed to get one of those moments that flashes in your head down on paper/electrons. I have had so many and just am unable to be near any kind of way to record it.

When you get back to it later, it never usually has the same potency that it did at the moment of inception.

    Wonderful Saturday, indeed! 🙂

    1. Oh, this was just the bicycle, you know the U-pedal variety 😉 The motorcycle still isn’t repaired. Not sure what I’m going to do about that thing. Probably repair it and sell it.

That’s scary about your fall off a ladder. I hate having to go up on the roof, which around here needs to be done annually to put moss killer on it. Falls off ladders are so common, and I’m sure you know all the statistics on those incidents.

I know what you mean about losing those flashes of inspiration. I always think, “Oh this is SO CLEAR and COHERENT and STRONG there’s NO WAY I’ll forget.” ha ha. I think I’ve finally learned my lesson!
