I’ve started a new Tarot blog, at Dangling Pentacles Tarot. Any future posts about Tarot will be over there, keeping this blog focused on writing. So herewith: A list of the Tarot and oracle decks I currently own. If you’re curious about any of them, let me know and I can post some photos.

  1. Oh my goodness! I knew you had a lot of Tarot decks, but I didn’t realize it was THIS many! Do you have a favorite? Is you reading “technique” different for the Oracle and Lenormand decks?

  2. Haha! I’m just getting warmed up! 🙂 There are people whose collections exceed 1000 decks.

I guess it is a different reading technique for the other decks, to some extent. The Lenormand-style in particular are pretty straight-forward, they tend to have meanings written right on the cards. I actually haven’t tried any readings with the oracle decks – Fairies, or Oracle of the Radiant Sun which is based in astrology. I know almost nothing about astrology but I loved the artwork. 🙂

As far as favorite… wow. I guess I would have to say first and foremost the Bohemian Gothic. There’s just nothing like it, and the artwork is so gorgeous. It’s really tough to choose, though, there are so many that I adore. My tried-and-true Robin Wood, the Gill Tarot, Thoth… all really good workhorse decks. Some of them I will never read with, a couple I can’t stand and would gladly part with.

  3. You know, I haven’t. I will give it a try. I did do a couple of daily card pulls with that one, I’ve always loved Froud’s art. I’ve been so enamored of all my vampire decks lately, I half forgot about the rest of the kids 😉

  4. Yup, I enjoy using that deck for a daily card too. 🙂
I don’t find it an easy deck to do a full traditional reading with. That’s why I was curious what success you might be having with it.

Moving on to vamps…do you have a current fave vamp deck? 😉

  5. I’m more focused on Tarot than other oracle decks, although I have some. I find it hard to shift gears and try to use a different system all the time so I pretty much stick to traditional Tarot (78 cards, Golden Dawn-based meanings). I did recently pick up the new Melissa Lenormand, and I think she’s working on another deck which, judging by the 3 cards I’ve seen so far I will have to get as well, but I haven’t really worked with it yet.

Favorite vamps… I would have to say the Vampires Tarot of the Eternal Night, by Davide Corsi, book by Barbara Moore. The book is really good (but you have to overlook some poor editing here and there), and the illustrations are a great improvement over his Tarot of the Elves. Most of them are very good, very life-like, although a couple of cards are still a little too wooden and obviously computer-generated, but I can forgive those few. 🙂 My only real complaint is the lovely box it all came in does not lend itself well to being toted around. I need to make a smaller box to just pack the cards in. I don’t think bags by themselves are enough protection.

    1. I don’t know how big the deck is, but you could probably find something at your local craft store – maybe a little wooden box, or a metal tin of some sort? Even if you don’t like the color or design, you could spray paint it, stencil it, something like that…

  6. Y’know, I remember wandering through the crafts store a long time ago and seeing all kinds of little boxes that would have been perfect for just such a use. Of course you know what happened when I went there to get a couple: Nada. Zilch. All gone. Nothing even remotely serviceable to be had. I have actually resorted to making a couple out of some very thin cardboard I had lying around, but they’re not very good. I’ll have to keep checking the crafts store, hope they get something in that will do.
