I decided to make Revenants Abroad free through the end of the year on Smashwords. Amazon doesn’t allow a price below .99 unless I put it into the KDP Select program, which I can’t do right now. I’m still hoping the Multnomah County Library will pick it up, and it has to be available on Smashwords for them to do it. So… it’ll be February sometime before I hear about that.
But, if you’ve been thinking about getting RA, please help yourself over on Smashwords. It’s available in multiple formats, including MOBI for Kindle. There are other reading apps you can get if Β you don’t have a dedicated e-reader like a Kindle or a Kobo. Aldiko seems to be popular for Samsung phones, etc.
It’s a small thing, I realize this isn’t going to make your Christmas season, but if you’ve been thinking about reading it, now’s a good time to pick it up.
Don’t make me put a Santa hat on Neko. He wouldn’t appreciate it.
Happy Holidays!
You can put it free on Amazon since it’s free on other platforms. Call them and tell them to price match and they will. Actually if you’re in Select you can only give it away for seven days through a promo, then it goes to regular price again. I’s so confusing, but I’m starting to think there’s not much benefit to going Select. I’m going wide with my next release to see if that helps. 1700 is in Select and I didn’t see anything special.

Yes, I’ve been in and out of the KDP Select program a number of times. I did get quite a few page reads from Kindle Select from people enrolled in that, so there was that. The only thing other thing is the advertising. I spent a lot of money on that in the past with very little response. I figure giving it away is cheaper than paying for expensive ads π Frankly I’ve had better responses just putting a note here on the blog when it’s free. I read about people who spend $20K/month on ads, and think if I had that kind of money I probably wouldn’t spend it on that. Even Goodreads starts at around $5K for ads. I’m a pauper, it’s out of the question.

Ads are useless unless you have a catalog and you are essentially selling lots of books by way of one ad. I mean, people will find your one book, like you, and read all the others. I won’t bother with ads for a long time, if ever. Let me know how you like Smashwords. That’s my plan next.

The book’s been on SW on and off, when it wasn’t in KDP Select, and it’s mostly been a dead-end. The reason I’m keeping it there for now is because I submitted it for the local library’s open call for local authors, and it has to be on Smashwords for them to consider it. I don’t think most readers have even heard of Smashwords. However, it does feed to Kobo, Barnes and Noble, and iTunes so there’s that. To feed to Amazon through them, you have to sell a certain number or something (I forget all the conditions now) so I uploaded directly to Amazon myself.

Kindle is easy enough to use. π Well, good luck! I don’t see what Smashwords has to do with the library, but there you go. π
